Great Northern Diver

On 30th December 2011 I made a run back west to Loop Head in search of rarities or storm wrecked seabirds.  It was disappointing as I thought I might see some white-winged gulls or other seabirds.  There was a lack of geese, swans etc.  The only birds of note were the amount of Great Northern Divers taking shelter in bays, harbors and even small lakes escaping the strong winds.  At Carrigaholt there were 12 Scaup, a Little Egret, some Great Crested Grebes and seven Great Northern Divers in the harbor.
